Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
While the 2001 Cobra shared nearly all the same components of the 1999 Cobra model, it did feature a number of changes. The engine block was switched from the Teksid block to the Windsor Aluminum Plant (or WAP) block, which is known to be weaker than the previous Teksid block. However, some 2001 Cobras were outfitted with the Teksid block, either from the factory or as a replacement motor. The cylinder heads were revised, and Ford issued a technical service bulletin to replace the affected heads with a version that featured improved coolant flow. Furthermore, the Cobra included unique seats with a combination of leather bolsters, alcantara (suede-like microfiber) inserts, and larger headrests, while the 1999 Cobras were fitted with typical Mustang GT seats. Also, the rear bumper was changed from "MUSTANG" to "COBRA," and the rear badge on the trunklid was altered from "SVT COBRA" to "SVT."
In terms of performance, the 2001 Cobra boasted a 0-60 mph of 5.4 seconds and could do a quarter mile in 13.8 seconds at 102 mph. Moreover, it featured a new steering wheel and a Mach audio system as well as a Tremec TR-3650 transmission, 31 spline axleshafts and differential (versus the 28 splines on the 1999 model), a redesigned rear decklid spoiler, a 6-disc radio unit, a center console and trim, and buttons for fog lights, rear window defroster, and anti-skid system situated on a panel beneath the radio. The headlight background was also switched from chrome to black, and the odometer digits and instrument cluster lighting color were slightly changed.
When it came to paint and interior trim, the 2001 Cobra was available in eight exterior paint colors, with two interior color choices: Dark Charcoal and Medium Parchment. Additionally, on Cobra convertibles, the vinyl top was offered in black, parchment, and white.
