Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible

The legendary Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible was released in the spring of 2002 with a supercharged, 32-valve DOHC, 4.6-liter V8 engine rated at 390 hp (291 kW) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m) of torque. However, the true output numbers were closer to 430 hp (321 kW) and 425 lb·ft (576 N·m) of torque. Nicknamed "Terminator" by the SVT development crew led by John Coletti, many improved specifications were implemented to improve power delivery from the previous model. The cast-iron block replaced the Teksid aluminum unit featuring stronger internals with modified connecting rods. An Eaton M-112 roots-type supercharger also increased boost pressure to 8 psi (0.55 bar). Coupled with a lightweight aluminum flywheel was a Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission, 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, and 31-spline halfshafts reinforced control arms. This resulted in 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.5 seconds and a quarter mile time of 12.67 seconds at 110.11 mph. With the governor removed, the top speed can reach up to nearly 180 mph.

The 2003 Cobra featured distinctive exterior styling designed by chief designer of the Ford GT supercar, Camilo Pardo. Signature updates included a front fascia integrated with a spoiler and air ducts, a new rear fascia with black insert and exhaust pipe fitment, a composite hood with working air scoops, and a body-color foldable sideview mirror. The sides featured unique sidesteps transitioning from the door to the bottom of the car. The rear of the Cobra had standard red taillights with the integrated turn signals, rather than the Canadian Mustang taillights with separate amber turn signals in the earlier models. Along with the design, SVT also included five-spoke 17" x 9" rims. Machined-faced aluminum with metallic argent-painted pockets and optionally chrome were available as choices. Finally, there was an optional decklid spoiler with an integrated LED brake light as opposed to the conventional winged spoiler seen in the previous Cobras and Mustang V6 and GT models.
