Ford Mustang Boss 302

The iconic 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was Ford's elite sports car. It featured a beefed up restyle with an extended body length of 3.8 inches (97mm) and a width increased by half an inch. The 1969 model was the first Mustang to use quad headlamps and a corralled pony logo set off-center to the driver's side. The fastback body version was rebranded the Sportsroof and featured convex side panels for a more streamlined look. A new addition in 1969 was the Mach 1. Available with a variety of engine options, the Mach 1 was most known for its distinctive reflective striping, simulated air scoop on the matte-black hood, dual exhausts, and Goodyear Polyglas tires. It also had Ford's first "shaker" hood scoop, a luxuriously appointed interior, and sporty mirrors. This new model was a hit with buyers with a total of 72,458 Mach 1's sold. The Boss 302 was created to meet Trans Am regulations and featured unique hockey-stick stripes, while the Boss 429 was created to homologate the Boss 429 engine for NASCAR use. These two models quickly gained fame both on the track and on the street and are still highly sought after today. Only 1628 Boss 302's and 859 Boss 429's were sold in 1969, making these special edition Mustangs quite rare.
