Ford Mustang Boss 429

The iconic 1969 Ford Mustang featured a restyle that increased its body length by 3.8 inches (97 mm), while the width was increased by nearly half an inch. This resulted in a "heftier" appearance, with the Mustang's weight also rising notably. The use of quad headlamps both inside and outside of the grille opening and the restyling of its corralled grille pony to the Pony and Tribars logo made the car instantly recognizable. It also featured convex side panels rather than the concave ones of the previous models and the fastback body version was renamed the SportsRoof. The 1969 model year also saw the introduction of the acclaimed Mach 1. It featured many tailored styling and performance features, such as reflective striping, an edgy pop-open gas cap, dual exhausts, matte-black hood with simulated air scoop, NASCAR-style cables, and pin-tiedowns. In addition, steel wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, as well as a "shaker" hood scoop were some of the other components that found their way into the Mach 1. A deluxe interior with simulated wood trim, high backed seats, additional soundproofing, and remote sports mirrors boosted the car’s appeal. As a result, the car sold an impressive 72,458 units in 1969. The Boss 302 and the Boss 429 were also launched in the same year. The former was created to comply with Trans Am rules and came with hockey-stick stripes, while the latter was built to homologate the Boss 429 engine for NASCAR use. Both variants won fame both on the track and the streets, with 1628 Boss 302’s and 859 Boss 429’s being sold in 1969. Due to their notoriety, these cars are highly sought after and command premium pricing.
