Ford Mustang Cobra

For 1994, the Mustang underwent a major redesign after 15 years. The new design, code named "SN-95" by Ford, still based on the "Fox" platform but featured a fresh look by Patrick Schiavone with retro styling. The car maintained its rear-wheel drive and the popularity of the Mustang cropped up to newer heights. The base engine was a 3.8L V6 rated at 145 hp (108 kW) and the GT carried a 4.9L “5.0” V8 with a 5.0L intake manifold and a larger 60mm throttle body that was now rated at 215 hp. The successful Cobra model also came back with its GT-40 equipped engine of 5.0 L now providing 240hp (179 kW) from a 70mm throttle body. The Mustang Cobra convertible was selected for the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car and 1000 replicas were manufactured to be sold across different dealers. The car came with upgraded brakes, transmission, and suspension. For this upgrade, the Mustang won ‘Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year’ trophy for the third time in 1994. In 1996, Mustang lovers were indicating for the 5.8L (351 in³) V8 for the regular production, however it didn't work out that way. The 5.0 GT engine was replaced by a 4.6L SOHC “Modular” V8 engine with 165 hp (160 kW). This engine was borrowed from Lincoln models through Ford's plan to update its engine lineup. It featured 2 valves (intake and exhaust) per cylinder. The Cobra model was modernized with dual overhead cam configurations of 4.6L V8 and 305 hp (227 kW) through a block cast by Teksid of Italy. The heads featured split ports and large valves and were probably extreme for the roads, however became favored by modular racing teams. To manage low end response, SVT installed an intake manifold with 2 runners and the secondaries opened at around 3000 rpm, making these early modular Cobras responsive. The 3.8L V6 was bumped to 150 hp (112 kW). In 1998, the SOHC 4.6L V8 power was increased to 225 hp (168 kW) with a more aggressive computer and larger exhaust tail pipes. The Mustang of the year was claimed as the "Round Body Mustang". It was also the first and the last year when the "Sports" pack was made available. It included a black stripe above the hood that runs till the wheel wells, which is irrespective of the car's color.
