Ford Mustang FR500

The Ford Mustang underwent a redesign in 1998 for the 1999 model year. Ford's New Edge design language featured sharper lines and larger wheel arches, giving the car a more functional look. Ford also added new wheels and hubcaps to the Mustang. However, the roof line and interior of the Mustang remained the same upon the redesign. The 1999 Mustang models featured 35th-Anniversary badges placed on their front fenders. Other added features included the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition appearance package, which was offered on 2,318 GT Coupes and 2,310 GT Convertibles. This appearance package featured body-colored hood scoop, rear spoiler, side scoops and rocker panels, 17 by 8-inch (200 mm) five-spoke aluminum wheels, and a blacked-out panel between the taillamps. The interior of the car included black leather and vinyl seats with silver inserts and pony emblem, aluminum shift knob, 35th anniversary script on its instrument cluster, silver and black floor mats with a 35th anniversary logo, and silver door trim inserts. The 3.8 L OHV Essex V6 served as the base engine on the Mustang in 1999, offering an output of 190 hp (142 kW; 193 PS) @ 5250 rpm and 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) of torque @ 2750 rpm. Ford further updated the engine in 2001 with split-port induction system, raising its power output to 193 hp (144 kW; 196 PS) at 5500 rpm and 225 lb·ft (305 N·m) of torque at 2800 rpm. The 3.8 L Essex engine was eventually replaced by the 3.9 L OHV Essex V6 in 2004 and that was further replaced by the 4.0 L Cologne V6 in 2005.
