Ford Mustang Shelby GT-350H

The 1965-1966 models of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-350H were the smallest and lightest of the GT 350 range. These cars became known as "Cobras" due to Ford-powered AC-based two seat sports cars produced in the same period by Shelby American, sporting the Cobra emblem and similar paint schemes. The vehicles featured a K-Code engine rated at 271 horsepower (202 kW; 275 PS), modified to a 306 hp (228 kW; 310 PS) "Cobra hi-riser". Included with each of these cars were a 4-speed manual and 9" live rear axle. In order to develop their competition potential, 34 GT 350Rs were created with race-spec parts, and these vehicles went on to become B-Production champions for three consecutive years. For 1966, the GT 350 was modified to allow greater comfort for casual drivers, with optional colors, rear seats, and the option of an automatic transmission. Subsequent models then followed a pattern of incremental increases in size, heft, and comfort, resulting in a 1969 GT 350 and 500 that were largely aesthetic tweaks of a standard Mustang. By this point, Carroll Shelby had ceased involvement in the creation of the vehicle. Instead, design was handled internally by Ford.
