Ford Mustang GT

For 1994, the Mustang underwent a major revamp after 15 years; the new design was still based on the "Fox" platform, but flaunted its more dynamic styling by Patrick Schiavone and some similarity to prior Mustangs. The car stayed rear-wheel drive and became massively popular. The base model featured a 3.8 L V6 engine that produced 145 hp (108 kW), and the GT was fitted with the "5.0" 4.9 L V8, with a 5.0L Thunderbird intake manifold and a 60mm throttle body, and produced 215 horsepower. The Cobra GT-40 equipped 5.0 L engine returned too, boasting 240 hp (179 kW) from a 70mm throttle body. The Mustang Cobra convertible was chosen as the Pace Car for the 1994 Indianapolis 500, and 1000 replicas were sold through select stores. Larger brakes, a different transmission, and tuned suspension were also included. 1994 marked the third time the Mustang was crowned Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year. In 1996, the 5.0 GT engine was upgraded to a 215 hp (160 kW) 4.6 L SOHC "Modular" V8. It was characterized by two valves per cylinder and split ports. The Cobra version was upgraded with a 305 hp (227 kW) dual over head cam configuration of the 4.6 L V8. The Cobra's block was cast by Teksid of Italy using aluminum and cross-bolted. The 3.8 L V6 engine received a boost to 150 hp (112 kW) that year. In 1998, the power of the SOHC 4.6 L V8 increased to 225 hp (168 kW) with a more drastic computer and bigger exhaust tail pipes. 1998 marked the last year of the "Round Body Mustang" and was the sole year the "Sports" package was offered - black stripes over the hood and the wheel wells regardless of car colour.
