Ford Mustang GT

The Ford Mustang underwent a major redesign in 1994, with dramatic new styling by Patrick Schiavone that paid homage to earlier Mustangs. The base model came with a 3.8 L V6 engine rated at 145 hp (108 kW) while the GT had a 4.9 L V8 engine - "5.0" - now equipped with the 5.0 L Thunderbird intake manifold and a larger 60mm throttle body, rated at 215 horsepower. The Cobra model returned, and it featured a GT-40 equipped 5.0 L engine with 240 hp (179 kW), aided by a 70mm throttle body. In 1994, the Mustang was selected as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500 - its third time in this honour - and replicas were sold through select dealers. It had larger brakes, a different transmission, and modified suspension. In 1996, the GT engine was replaced by a 215 hp (160 kW) 4.6 L SOHC "Modular" V8 and that same year, the Cobra version was updated with a 305 hp (227 kW) dual over head cam configuration of the 4.6 L V8. The 3.8 L V6 was bumped to a 150 hp (112 kW) rating in 1996 as well. The SOHC 4.6 L V8 was further increased to 225 hp (168 kW) in 1998 with a new computer and exhaust tailpipes. That year also marked the last of the "Round Body Mustang," with the "Sports" package offering a black hood stripe and wheel wells.
