Ford Mustang Glass Roof
Ford has released the 2009 Ford Glass Roof Mustang, offering customers a third roof option and responding to their increasing demand for natural light. Recent data from Just-auto indicates a near twofold rise in the production of large sunroofs in North America since 2003, partially attributed to commuters. The US Census Bureau also noted a near 50 percent growth in individuals with commutes longer than one hour between 1990 and 2000.
The new roof option on both the V-6 and Mustang GT models is available from summer 2021 for $1,995, providing customers a more affordable solution than a convertible and without compromising interior headroom or the climate-controlled environment. According to J.D. Power and Associates research, nearly half of all sports cars sold in America are Mustangs, and 62 percent of sports car buyers are interested in a sunroof on their next vehicle.
The Mustang Glass Roof is manufactured with tinted privacy glass, which decreases both infrared rays and cooling time by half, and a built-in manual roller blind to enable further light control. This glass contains a layer of vinyl to minimize noise, vibrations, and harshness, whilst also safeguarding the interior fabric material from solar radiation deterioration and discoloration. It is also designed as safety glass, which shatters without any sharp edges.
The Glass Roof Mustangs are assembled at the Automotive Alliance International facility in Flat Rock, Michigan and the glass installed at Ford's adjacent personalization facility. Throughout the development process, prototypes have completed various rigorous tests, including water, air leakage, durability, squeak and rattle, and vehicle dynamics testing. Mustang's noteworthy performance in the 2007 J.D. Power and Associates IQS, VDS, and APEAL studies further proofs the commitment of the team to ensure top quality. As Paul Randle, Mustang's chief nameplate engineer says, "Our owners have high expectations, and we always want to meet them - with strong features like this new roof option, quality and performance."
