Ford Mustang K-Code

The Ford Mustang is an iconic American car that originated from the Ford Falcon compact and was named after the Southern Methodist University (SMU) mascot. It was first introduced on April 17, 1964, at the New York World Fair and became the most successful product launch in automotive history, inspiring the term pony car and causing a rapid surge in dealerships across the continent. The Mustang was designed to offer a perfect balance of sporty looks, incredible performance, and an affordable price tag, selling over one million units within its first year and a half. Though the Mustang has inspired a lot of equine artwork throughout its existence, it was actually named after the World War II-era P-51 Mustang aircraft. Engineering Surprisingly, the Mustang is mostly made of simple components taken from the Ford Falcon and Fairlane while having a few upgrades. Its unitized platform-type frame was taken from the 1964 Falcon, along with its welcoming box-section side rails and five welded crossmembers. To prevent problems with the rigidity of the frame, the convertible was engineered first. The overall length, width, and wheel track of the Mustang and Falcon were nearly identical. Its shipping weight was about 2570 lb (1170 kg) with the six-cylinder engine and 3000 lb (1360 kg) with a full-equipped V8 engine.
