Ford Mustang Mach 1

The 1994 Mustang featured redesigned styling by Patrick Schiavone that paid homage to earlier Mustangs, and this design greatly revived the popularity of the brand. It was still based on the "Fox" platform, and remained rear-wheel drive. The base model was equipped with a 3.8 L V6 engine with an output of 145 hp (108 kW) while the GT had a 5.0 L V8 engine that produced 215 hp (160 kW). The Mustang Cobra returned with a 5.0 L GT-40 engine, now rated at 240 hp (179 kW). A special version was selected as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500, and 1000 replicas were built and sold. In 1996, the 5.0L engine was replaced with a 4.6 L SOHC V8 rated at 215 hp (160 kW). The Cobra version of this engine boasted a high-revving 305 hp (227 kW) dual overhead cam configuration with an aluminum, cross-bolted block and heads with split ports and huge valves. The 3.8 L V6 was upgraded to 150 hp (112 kW) that year. In 1998, the SOHC 4.6 L V8 power was increased to 225 hp (168 kW) with a more advanced computer and larger exhaust tail pipes. This was also the final year of the "Round Body Mustang," as well as the only year that the "Sports" package was offered, which included a distinctive black stripe on the hood and wheel wells.
