Ford Mustang SVT Cobra 10th Anniversary

The Ford Mustang SVT Cobra 10th Anniversary Edition debuted in the spring of 2002 with an impressive Supercharged 4.6-liter V8 engine with 32 valves. This engine provided 390 hp (291 kW) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m) of torque, which was the equivalent of 430 hp (321 kW) and 425 lb·ft (576 N·m) of torque. The SVT development team, led by John Coletti, named the project “Terminator.” The engine used a cast-iron block, Zolner pistons, Manley H-beam connecting rods, and a wrist pin oiling hole. To handle the increased power output, a lightweight aluminum flywheel was installed, and a Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission, 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, and stronger 31-spline half shafts with revised upper and lower control arms were added. The Terminator Cobra had a 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.67 seconds at 110.11 mph. The Cobra was electronically-governed to reach a top speed of 155 mph, but if the governor were removed, it could reach a top speed of nearly 180 mph. To give the Terminator a visually unique look, Camilo Pardo, the chief designer of the 2005-2006 Ford GT created a new exterior. This included a specific front fascia with an integrated spoiler and brake air ducts, a composite hood with dual functional air scoops, newly designed side scoops, foldable sideview mirrors, side skirts, and a decklid spoiler with an integrated LED brake light. It also featured 5-spoke 17" x 9" rims available in a machined aluminum with metallic argent-painted pockets or chrome. The Terminator's taillights featured standard red Mustang taillights with integrated turn signals as opposed to the Canadian Mustang taillights with separate amber turn signals seen on the 1999-2002 Cobras.
