Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

In 1994, Ford unveiled the first major redesign of the Mustang in 15 years. Code named as "SN-95" by Ford, this redesign featured radical styling reviving the Mustang's popularity. The base Mustang was equipped with a 3.8L V6 engine producing 145 hp (108 kW) while the GT version was fitted with the "5.0" 4.9L V8 producing 215 horsepower. Following a successful re-introduction of the Cobra model, the V8 engine was now rated at 240 hp (179 kW) thanks to an increase of 5 horsepower from the 70mm throttle body. As a special honor, the Mustang Cobra convertible was chosen as the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500, making it the third time that the car had been chosen. For 1996, the 5.0 GT engine was replaced by the 215 hp (160 kW) 4.6L SOHC "Modular" V8 engine. This engine was part of Ford's plan to modernize its engine lineup. It had two valves per cylinder, one for intake and one for exhaust. As an upgrade, the Cobra model came equipped with the high-revving 305 hp (227 kW) dual over head cam configuration of the 4.6L V8. Also, the 3.8L V6 engine was bumped up to a 150 hp (112 kW) rating. In 1998, SOHC 4.6L V8 power was increased to 225 hp (168 kW) with a more aggressive computer and larger exhaust tail pipes. This was the last year of the "Round Body Mustang" and the only year the "Sports" package was offered - featuring a unique black stripe on the hood and wheel wells.
