Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
While the 2001 Cobra had many of the same components as the 1999 model, some changes were made. These include: a revised engine block (changed from Teksid to the Windsor Aluminum Plant block); revised cylinder heads, as well as Cobra-specific seats with leather bolsters and alcantara inserts; the rear bumper now reading "COBRA" instead of "MUSTANG"; a badge on the trunklid that reads "SVT"; a new steering wheel and upgraded audio system; 17" x 8" silver-powdercoated, five-spoke aluminum or chrome wheels; the Tremec TR-3650 transmission; enhancement to the axleshafts and differential; a redesigned rear decklid spoiler; an upgraded audio unit from a radio with tape deck and a single-CD player to a single-face, 6-disc unit; a revised center console and trim; buttons moved to a panel below the new radio; an emergency brake fitted with a leather boot; headlights with a black background instead of chrome; and a color change with the odometer digits and instrument cluster lighting. Performance-wise, the 2001 Cobras had a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds and a quarter mile time of 13.8 seconds at 102 mph, and were electronically limited to a top speed of 150 mph.
Paint and Interior Trim
The 2001 Cobra was available in eight exterior paint colors and two interior color choices - Dark Charcoal (with Dark Charcoal leather bolsters and Medium Graphite alcantara inserts) or Medium Parchment (with Chocolate Brown leather bolsters and Medium Parchment alcantara inserts). For Cobra convertibles, the vinyl top came in black, parchment, or white, and was the same one used on regular 2001 Mustang convertibles.
