Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible

Debuting in the spring of 2002, the 2003 Cobra came with a supercharged, 32-valve DOHC, 4.6-liter V8 engine boasting an impressive 430 hp (321 kW) and 425 lb·ft (576 N·m) of torque. This engine - dubbed "Terminator" by the SVT development crew led by John Coletti - was enabled with an 8 psi (0.55 bar) of boost delivered from the stock Eaton M-112 roots-type supercharger. Coupled with a lightweight aluminum flywheel, and a Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission, 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, and stronger 31-spline halfshafts, the engine could propel the Mustang from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and do the quarter mile in 12.67 seconds at 110.11 mph. Electronically-governed to a top speed of 155 mph, the removal of the governor allows the car to reach a top speed of almost 180 mph. The 2003 Cobra also featured updated design elements that further set this model apart from the 1999-2002 Cobras. These exterior differences included a new front fascia with an integrated spoiler and front brake air ducts, a new rear fascia with a black insert visually integrating the exhaust pipes, a composite hood with dual functional air scoops, newly designed side scoops, and foldable sideview mirrors painted in the matching body color. The side skirts were unique to this model, with a smooth body line from the door to the bottom of the car. Also included was the use of standard red Mustang taillights with integrated turn signals, as opposed to the Canadian Mustang taillights with separate amber turn signals on the previous models. SVT also introduced new five-spoke 17" x 9" rims, available in either standard machined-faced aluminum with metallic argent-painted pockets or optional chrome. The new decklid spoiler with an integrated LED brake light was also introduced - though it was optional to delete it - and then the brake light was integrated into the decklid using conventional bulbs.
