Ford SVT Mustang Cobra MystiChrome

The limited-edition 2004 Mystichrome Cobra was a special edition Cobra designed to commemorate the Mustang's 40th anniversary. It was debuted at the 2003 New York International Auto Show alongside the 2004 40th Anniversary Mustang GT and V6 models. To create this unique look, SVT partnered with outside vendors and Ford's product planners to develop an improved formulation of color-shifting paint. This paint, known as the "2004 Ford Mustang Cobra MystiChrome Metallic", contained ChromaFlair pigments that shifted from a topaz green to cobalt blue, to royal purple, and finally to an onyx black. Metallic aluminum flakes were also added for some sparkle. As the paint is still very expensive, any external damage to the car is expensive to repair – a Ford employee is required to bring the paint to a body shop to match the hue correctly. The interior of the Mystichrome Cobra features special Mystichrome leather on the seat inserts and the steering wheel at the 10, 2, and 6 o'clock positions. This was crafted by Garden State Tanning with the Mystichrome paint being sprayed directly onto the leather and then sealed with a clear protective coating. The car also came standard with 17" five-spoke chrome wheels. The Mystichrome Cobra was produced between December 2003 and January 2004, with 1,010 vehicles created total (515 coupes and 495 convertibles). The Mystichrome Appearance Package was available for just $3,650. The story of the SVT operations and the Terminator Cobra is explored in depth in "Iron Fist, Lead Foot" by Frank Moriarty.
