Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

The 1965-1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350s were the smallest and lightest of the GT 350 models, and are sometimes referred to as "Cobras". All 1965-66 cars featured the K-Code 271 hp (202 kW; 275 PS) 289 cu in (4.7 L) engine, modified to produce 306 hp (228 kW; 310 PS). It had a 4-speed manual transmission and 9" live rear axle. To complete the look, it featured the high-riser intake manifold, Tri-Y headers, and the optional "Cobra" valve covers, as well as a Cobra emblem, and a similar paint scheme, all of which were iconic symbols of Carroll Shelby. The 1965 G.T. 350R model was specifically designed for competition use under SCCA rules, and was the B-Production champion for three straight years. The 1966 G.T. 350 incorporated more comfort features, including rear seats, optional colors, and an optional automatic transmission. Subsequent years featured further changes that trended towards larger, heavier, and more comfortable cars, which correspondingly decreased their competitiveness. By 1969, Carroll Shelby was no longer involved in the Shelby GT program, and the design was taken over by Ford.
