Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible
After 40 years of being apart, Carroll Shelby and the Ford Mustang have reunited in the form of the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. This modern-day interpretation of the Shelby Mustang of the 1960s packs a powerful punch with its 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 that generates 500 horsepower. Advanced engineering has allowed the Ford Shelby GT500 to obtain the performance associated with the original GT500, making it the most powerful Mustang ever. True to form, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be available in both coupe and convertible forms and will arrive in dealerships by the summer of 2006.
Hau Thai-Tang, director of Advanced Product Create and Special Vehicle Team, explains the mission of the team: “Carroll wanted to build the most powerful, most capable Mustangs of his day. Our goal was to build the most powerful, most capable Mustang ever.” Their ambition did not stop there, however. Shelby was “impressed by what the team has accomplished," considering the fact that they exceeded their goal of 450 horsepower and hit 500.
Shelby was also a senior adviser on the team that developed the 550-horsepower Ford GT.
