Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR KITT

When the Ford Shelby GT500KR launches this spring, its renowned name tag of "King of the Road" since 1968 may get confused with its star turn as KITT in the upcoming remake of the TV series Knight Rider. Al Uzielli, a senior advisor at Ford Global Brand Entertainment, said: "It's purely a coincidence and a nice one at that. Auto enthusiasts will know what KR stands for. But most viewers will probably think it means Knight Rider; at least at first." The classic show stars David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a modern-day knight, and his artificial intelligence-powered partner, the Pontiac Trans Am, which has been replaced by the KR in the new remake. Ford is taking the full publicity advantage of the show, not only by merging a Ford vehicle into the plot line, but also by slotting in commercials and promotions of their cars. If the ratings are good, the show is set to be adapted to a weekly series this fall. The KR has an estimated engine output of 540 horsepower, making it a fitting star of the show.
