Ford Mustang V6 Pony

Production for the 2005 Mustang began on September 7, 2004, with the first model debuting on the 27th at Flat Rock Assembly. U.S. buyers could get their hands on one at the end of October that year, with full production ending in 2008 for the 2009 model year. The Mustang V6 was equipped with Ford’s 4.0 L Cologne SOHC V6, replacing the 3.8 L Essex OHV V6 from the previous model. This engine boasted 210 hp (157 kW) at 5300 rpm and 240 lb·ft (325 N·m) of torque at 3500 rpm, with a Tremec T-5 5-speed manual or 5R55S 5-speed automatic transmission as options. Additionally, the Mustang included a 3.31:1 final drive ratio. In a comparison test with a Pontiac G6 Convertible, Motor Trend magazine found that the Mustang V6 convertible with an automatic transmission did zero to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in 7.3 seconds, 1.4 seconds faster than the 2006 Pontiac G6 convertible. The Mustang features an independent MacPherson-strut front suspension and a three-link system with a Panhard Rod at the rear, providing lower cost and weight over more expensive independent rear suspensions, though having reduced handling. Ford was met with critique for this decision, as they stated at a press conference that adding an independent rear suspension would’ve added an extra $5,000 to the showroom price.
