Gordon Murray Teewave AR.1 Concept

Gordon Murray Design Limited and Toray Industries Inc unveiled an electric sports car concept dubbed the Teewave AR.1. Developed with the internal GMD code number of 'T.32', the 2-seater was created following a commission from Toray for Gordon Murray Design to design and build a prototype that incorporates many of the company's automotive materials. The entire program took just 9 months to build and the vehicle was delivered according to cost and schedule. The powertrain components in the AR.1 are inspired by existing electric-powered vehicles, while the electrical architecture and control units were developed by Gordon Murray Design. The car also features a carbon front crash structure specifically designed and tested for Euro Ncap O.D.B compliance, including half energy and full energy simulations, plus bend and torsion assessments. Thanks to the Toray carbon fibre construction system with a process time of less than 10 minutes, the Teewave AR.1 weighs in at just 850 kg (including its 240 kg battery). This makes it 400 kg lighter than cars like the Tesla and places the car in line with the Lotus Elise when it comes to performance. It produces 47 kW of power and has a torque of 180 Nm available from a standing start for a punchy acceleration.
