Gumpert Tornante by Touring

The 2011 Geneva Motor Show featured the world premiere of the Gumpert Tornante, developed through a collaboration between Touring Superleggera and Gumpert. Touring provided the design and body engineering, while Gumpert were responsible for production and sales of the model from 2012 onwards. The Tornante was showcased with a 1:1 static style model, in line with the best Italian tradition. Fast Tourer Gumpert's past successes with street legal racing cars led them to enlist the help of Touring Superleggera to develop a vehicle with added elegance, passenger and luggage space, improved comfort, access and ventilation, and noise reduction. Despite these modifications, the fundamentals of performance and dynamic excellence were uncompromisingly maintained. The Touring design and engineering team used a process of creative elimination to make sure that only the essential parameters were included, limiting unnecessary weight and volume. This resulted in a thoroughbred with some extra skills, allowing for a little more civilized and comfortable experience - a 'Fast Tourer'. Nonetheless, its intentions remain clear. Project development Gumpert thoroughly considered all potential partners before selecting Touring to design the body of the new car, knowing that elegance was a fundamental part of their creative approach. This performance-meets-elegance approach proved successful in the past with the 1940 BMW 328 Berlinetta, Ferrari 166/340, and the Alfa Romeo 8C2900 - all of which were both powerful race machines and phenomenally graceful.
