Holden TK Barina Hatch 5-door

In 2005, Holden replaced the Opel sourced Barina with the Daewoo Kalos hatchback, which it has rebranded as the TK Holden Barina. This was followed up by the introduction of a more conventional four-door sedan for the Barina nameplate in February 2006, which came kitted out with a 1.6L twin-cam 16-valve engine. Holden's move was made in response to the increasing level of competition in the small car market in Australia, which a range of quality South Korean models like the Hyundai Getz seem to have the edge. However, the change of source provider for the Barina was met with some backlash. It received 2 stars from the Australian New Car Assesment Program crash test, making it one of the worst rated cars in ANCAP history. This caused widespread attention in the media and on the internet, forcing Holden's Managing Director to publicly defend the product. It seems that even a low sticker price isn't enough to guarantee success in the Australian small car market, as many consumers have been willing to pay the extra money for cars that offer better quality and features. The current entry-level 3 door manual TK Barina retails at $13,490AUD.
