Holden TK Barina Sedan 2006 posters

Holden TK Barina Sedan

When Holden decided to drop its Opel-sourced Barina model in December 2005 and replace it with the Daewoo Kalos hatchback rebadged as the new TK Holden Barina, a four-door sedan version was soon launched in February 2006. It is powered with a 1.6L twin-cam 16-valve engine. The decision was taken to make sure Holden could keep up with the competition in Australia's rapidly growing small cars market, where vehicles like the Hyundai Getz are sourced from South Korea. However, Holden's choice of the Daewoo model as a replacement caused a storm of negative publicity. The 2005 version had dropped two stars in the Australian New Car Assessment Program crash test results, resulting in one of the worst ANCAP scores in history. The issue attracted widespread media attention and lots of online discussion. Holden's Managing Director had to step in and publicly defend the product. Alas, the tricky Australian small car market has showed that a low price is not enough to bring in buyers, who often choose more expensive, better equipped models instead. The three-door manual TK Barina is currently priced at $13,490AUD.
