Holden Torana GTR-X Concept
Designed during the era of the LC series Torana, the Holden Torana GTR-X Concept was seriously considered for production in the early 1970s. Resembling iconic sports cars such as the Ferrari 308 GT4, Lotus Esprit and the Mazda RX-7, the GTR-X featured a wedge-shaped fibreglass body with hatchback rear access and a low wedge grille. It was designed with LC Torana GTR XU-1 mechanical components and weight of 1,043 kg (2,299 lb), plus a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). It would have been the first Holden car with factory-installed four wheel disc brakes.
Holden's promotional brochure for the car featured a sharp windshield with recessed parking and turning lights as well as flush petrol filler access and door handles. A black and orange stripe running parallel to the rocker panel put a unique label on the GTR-X. However, despite producing brochures, photography and promotional films, Holden was ultimately unable to bear the high cost of the car's production given the population size of Australia at the time.
