The Holden VY Commodore was released between September 2002 and August 2004 as a successor to the VX series of Commodore. In August 2003, a Series II of the VY was released, providing a much better overall experience with its improved body structure, powertrain, and chassis dynamics.
Available in eight models, the VY Commodore was an all-sedan vehicle with the Executive, Acclaim, Berlina, Calais, and SS lines. There were also wagon versions of the Executive, Acclaim, and Berlina models. Along with the Commodore, a similar model in the VZ range, the Calais, was available as a sedan only.
The VY Commodore had undergone a complete facelift with a new grille, headlights, and rear tail-lights. On the interior, the car featured a new instrument panel, centre console, steering wheel, and transmission shifter and handbrake. Other changes and additions included a new digital display, a mobile phone power outlet, and road-speed sensitive intermittent wipers and passenger airbags. Depending on the model, the car also included a twilight sentinel - an automatic headlight control.
