Holden VZ Commodore SV6

Released in August 2004, the VZ Holden Commodore marked the debut of the new generation of 175 and 190kW 3.6L 'Alloytec' V6 engines sourced from General Motors and derived from the GM HFV6. This DOHC engine design is also used in the Alfa Romeo 159 and turbocharged in the 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero. The VZ was also equipped with the 5L40E 5-speed automatic transmission for select V6 variants, and the Aisin AY6 6-speed manual transmission. Additionally, a new L76 6.0L V8 was introduced in January 2006, slightly modified from the U.S. version but without Displacement On Demand and variable valve timing. With the release of the VE Holden Commodore sedan in August 2006, the VZ Holden Commodore sedan range was discontinued. The VZ station wagon will likewise be phased out in 2007. The 3.6L Alloytec engines are more powerful and fuel-efficient compared to the predecessor's pushrod ohv ECOTEC V6, with similar driveabilty and sound. Mated to new and upgraded transmissions, drivers have noticed increases in refinement. Certain models are also equipped with active safety technologies to help the driver maintain control in emergency situations. The VZ Commodore range included the Executive, Acclaim, Berlina, Calais, SV6, SV8 and SS models. These were available as sedans, and the Executive, Acclaim and Berlina are also available in station wagon variants.
