Holden VZ Commodore SV8

The VZ Holden Commodore was released in August, 2004 and ushered in a new generation of vehicles, powered by 175 and 190kW 3.6L 'Alloytec' V6 engines (derived from the GM HFV6). These DOHC engines were also used in the 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero, with a Turbo added. The V6 models were modified further, and the improved technology was carried over to the VE Holden Commodore series, released in August 2006. Sports and luxury V6 variants were equipped with a 5L40E 5-speed automatic transmission sourced from GM. The sports SV6 variant additionally offered an Aisin AY6 6-speed manual transmission. Further power was added to the line when Holden introduced a detuned version of the US 6.0 L V8 engine in January 2006. From August 2006, the sedan range of the VZ Holden Commodore was discontinued to make way for the newer VE Holden Commodore lineup. The station wagon variant of the VZ Holden Commodore followed suit in 2007. The Alloytec V6 engines were one of the highlights of the VZ Commodore range. They provided higher power outputs, better responsiveness, and greater fuel efficiency than the outgoing ECOTEC V6. They were paired with all-new and upgraded transmissions, which increased the overall performance and drivability of the vehicle. Selected models of the VZ Commodore were equipped with advanced active safety features which allowed the driver to maintain control in emergency situations. The range consisted of the Executive, Acclaim, Berlina, Calais, SV6, SV8 and the SS models, which were available in both sedan and and station wagon.
