Honda Accord Hatchback

The third generation Honda Accord was launched in Japan in June 1985 and was also released in Europe and North America later in the same year. This model had a very eye-catching design created by Toshi Oshika in 1983, featuring hidden headlamps. This generation was also known as the Honda Vigor, which included the hidden headlamps, and Honda Verno models in Japan featured specific design elements that gave the product a unique identity. The Honda Clio, Honda Legend and international Accord models were all now evidentially similar to the Prelude, CR-X and the latest Integra. European Accords of this generation did not have the concealed headlamps. Using double wishbones to support both front and rear suspension, this was a more expensive option than competitors' MacPherson strut systems, although the model experienced superior stability and sharper handling. All had front sway bars and upper models had a rear sway bar included. To finish off this Accord, 13-inch steel wheels with hubcaps were used on base models, with 14-inch alloy wheels as an optional extra on more expensive models. The Accord had a range of engines available depending on its market; Japan received the A18A, B18A, and B20A; Europe received the A16A1, A20A2, A20A4, B20A2, and B20A8; while North America received the A20A1 and A20A3. The introduction of the 2.0 litre engine in Japan put the vehicle into the high-end category and drivers had to pay more annual road tax than the two previous generations.
