Honda Accord Hybrid

The 2003 Accord marked a major redesign for the iconic car, with Honda creating two different versions for different markets: the US/Asian model based on the JDM Honda Inspire, and the smaller, sportier model gifted to Japan and Europe, which was later released in the US as the Acura TSX. Along with its enlarged size, the Accord included new elements of refinement such as chrome interior accents and higher grade materials; an array of trim levels were on offer, ranging from the DX to the LX-V6 and EX-V6. Mechanically, the 4-cylinder engine was the K-series, and the 6-cylinder was the J-series V6, with intake runners, exhaust, and headers providing a 40 hp (30 kW) increase. A 5-speed auto transmission was also made available for the first time. Non-US markets including Asian (now made in Thailand), Middle Eastern, Caribbean, Australian and New Zealand markets had the North American Accord as an option, while the US model also welcomed an enthusiast version with a sports suspension, and a 6-speed manual from the Acura CL. Furthermore, a 4-cylinder model from 2003 became the first production car to meet California's Super Ultra Low Emission standards. Navigation was further upgraded to include a GPS assisted system as an option, which had previously been restricted to the Acura line and Honda Odyssey. The first 2003 model rolled off the Marysville, OH assembly line on September 26, 2002.
