Honda Accord Sedan

The fourth generation Accord was introduced in 1989. Its aerodynamic, low-slung design featured a wraparound rear window, similarly to its predecessor, albeit being much larger in size. This model was one of the first US-manufactured options to feature headlamps with clear lenses and optic reflectors. The Accord also had design elements inspired by the Honda Legend, which was sold in North America under the Acura brand. The international demand and popularity of this car led to increases in its dimensions, which were comparable to the first Honda Legend, launched in 1986. Honda made several engineering changes in this Accord generation. All cars sold in North America came with an all-aluminium, 16-valve, electronic fuel-injected 2.2L engine, substituted from the 2.0L 12-valve of the past. Additionally, all Accords with automatic transmission featured an electronically-controlled rear engine mount to reduce low-frequency noises and vibrations. It contained a valve with two chambers filled with fluid determined by engine speed. The trim levels Saint America were DX, LX, and EX, and slight variations were seen in Canadian-manufactured cars. The EXi Accord for Australia featured 4-wheel steering, similarly to the Honda Prelude, but the same was not offered for New Zealand-assembled variants. Lastly, the DX, LX, and EX models were available for the Accord Coupé, with the EX-R only being sold in Canada.
