Honda Accord Sedan

For the sixth generation, Honda divided the Accord into three different models, crafted for the Japanese, North American, and European markets. Nonetheless, the wagon was no longer available in North America, but the coupe was not on offer in Japan. In addition to this, two distinctive performance varieties were created specifically for the European and Japanese domestic markets, known as Type R and Euro R.

Japan

The Japanese models, introduced in September 4, 1997, became more compact than the old generation, conforming to the favorable compact car tax bracket, apart from Euro R and the wagon, which were categorised as the bigger mid-sized classification. A twin car that was quite identical, the Honda Torneo, replaced the Honda Ascot and the Honda Rafaga in Japan, with Honda Verno and Honda Primo Japanese dealers selling the Torneo, and Honda Clio having the Automaker's Accord. This was the last generation that was exclusive as the Isuzu Aska. When the previous Accord grew up in external dimensions, the Accord was then reclassified as a midsized car in Japan. The succeeding generation Honda Inspire was made in two platforms, with the smaller G20A five-cylinder engine kept in a shorter and slimmer sedan that met the "compact" regulations. This effort showed Honda's positioning of Honda Clio as a luxury car dealership that in turn sold the luxury sedans Honda Legend and Honda Inspire, similar to their approach in North America with the Acura brand. Furthermore, Honda kept on offering the Accord station wagon in Japan, wherein all its various trim levels had Honda's recently created telematics service called Internavi open to be used through the web.
