Honda Accord Wagon

When Honda launched the 5th generation Accord model in 1993, the Japanese automaker developed two distinct versions - one for Europe and one for North American and Japanese markets. Honda and Rover Group created the European Accord and the Rover 600, reflecting their past successes with the Honda Legend and the Rover 800. In Japan, this generation Accord was known as the Isuzu Aska and the opposite was seen as well - some Isuzu products sold as Honda products.

At its introduction, the 5th generation Accord won the Car of the Year Japan Award for the second time.

North America, Japan and Philippines

The 5th generation North American Accord debuted on 9 September 1993 and was built on a new ‘CD’ chassis. This model was larger than its predecessor, while also being narrower, classifying it as a mid-size car. This dimension was too large to meet Japan’s tax bracket, leading the Honda Ascot and Rafaga models to take its place. Additionally, the 2.0-litre engine in Japanese models made buyers liable for additional annual road tax when compared to the 1.8-litre engine, causing sales numbers to drop.
