Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a compact crossover SUV released by the Japanese automaker in 1996, intended to meet increasing demand for sport-utility vehicles. It is based on the Honda Civic platform, and is sold with either all wheel drive or front wheel drive. It is Honda's smallest SUV, apart from the related Honda Element sold in the US and Canada, as well as the HR-V sold in Europe. In size, the CR-V sits between the Element and Pilot.

Second generation

The second generation CR-V was a complete redesign, based on the 7th generation Civic platform. It is powered by a K24 engine delivering 160 horsepower (119 kW) and 162 ft·lbf (220 N·m) of torque. The improved chassis offers increased torsional and bending rigidity, while the revised suspension system consists of MacPherson struts for the front and a reactive-link double wishbone for the rear. Additionally, the new design raises cargo space to 72 ft³ (2 m³). This second-generation CR-V received Best Small SUV for 2002 and 2003 from Car and Driver magazine. Minor changes were made on these models from 2002 to 2004. Outside of North America, CR-V vehicles are offered in both 'low spec' and 'high spec' variants, with the latter featuring body-coloured bumpers and other exterior accessories. These vehicles also do not require the hatch glass to be opened before accessing the rear door.
