Honda Civic CRX Si

The Honda CR-X, originally known as the Honda Ballade Sports CR-X in Japan, was a compact sports car manufactured by Honda. It was first released in 1983 for the 1984 model year, being marketed as an economy sport hatchback that could comfortably seat two passengers. In the European markets, however, it was released with a more powerful ZC 130 hp engine and four seats. Redesigned in 1987 and produced until 1992, the CR-X was a hit with consumers thanks to its performance (especially the US performance model, the Si), nimble handling, and good fuel economy. The original 1.3 liter car and the later American-market CR-X HF model could reliably get over 50 mpg, giving it an edge over gas-electric hybrids released a decade later - without a price premium. One of the rarest options for the CR-X was the "Cyber Glass" roof, stretched from the top of the windshield all the way back to the hatch opening. In the Japanese market, the Si model was equipped with a 1.6 L dual overhead camshaft engine that outputted 128 bhp. Honda updated the appearance of the car in 1990 when the B16A VTEC engine was added to the lineup, boasting a power increase up to 160 bhp in the SiR model. The CR-X was replaced in 1992 by the Honda Civic Del Sol, also called the Honda Del Sol. Some markets even badged the Del Sol as the CR-X Del Sol, which on account of this is generally accepted to be the "3rd Generation CR-X". Although it was notably different from the original model, Honda still equipped the Del Sol with three trim levels - S, Si, and VTEC - with the latter having a DOHC engine with a power output of 160 hp, until it was discontinued in 1997. Rumours of a CR-X comeback have been circulating for years, with Autoweek reporting that Honda was planning for a revival of the CR-X to be released in 2007; however, this was never officially announced by Honda. Awards The Civic CR-X was awarded Motor Trends Import Car of the Year for 1984, and it also made Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1985 and 1988. The CR-X Si was also chosen as Motor Trends Import Car of the Year for 1988.
