Honda Civic Del Sol Si

The Honda Civic del Sol is a two-seater, front-engined, front-wheel-drive sports car manufactured by Honda in the 1990s. Based on the Honda Civic platform, the del Sol was the successor to the CR-X. It was first released in 1992 in Japan and the United Kingdom, while the United States received it in 1993. Its Spanish-derived name "del Sol" literally translates to "of the sun" or "from the sun", referencing its targa top convertible-style roof. Although not a full convertible, the Honda del Sol features a removable hardtop that can be stowed in the trunk, as well as a retractable rear window for a convertible-like feel. This trunk size was reduced from 9.5 cubic feet to 6.5 cubic feet when the targa top was stored. In the US, Honda dropped the "Civic" name from the del Sol in 1995. In Europe, the del Sol tag was dropped in 1995, and the car was known as the "new CR-X". Production and sales ended with the 1997 model in the US and the 1998 model elsewhere, with a total of less than 75,000 vehicles sold in America. Specification The Civic del Sol came in two trim levels: the S and the SI. The base S model featured a 1.5-liter SOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine and 13-inch steel wheels, which was an option only available at Honda Verno Japanese dealerships. A Honda D15B-VTEC engine was found in the VXi/VGi Japanese versions, giving 128 bhp (95 kW; 130 PS). The upgraded Si model packed a 1.6-liter SOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with Honda's VTEC. It featureed 14-inch alloy wheels, power side mirrors, cruise control, and rear disc brakes, as well as wider tires and additional front and rear anti-sway bars for better handling. Optional exterior features included a rear spoiler, custom floor mats, power steering, and heated mirrors. The only automatic transmission available was in the S and SI models, and optional installations included a traction control system, limited slip differential (not available in the US), and air conditioning. TransTop The TransTop was an electric mechanism option available for vehicles sold in Japan and Europe. It allowed users to retract the targa top into the trunk by pressing a button. To do so, users need to flick two catches above the windows, and then press down a button. The trunk lid rises vertically, then two arms extend into the targa top, securing the lid to the arms. From here, the arms pull the targa top into the trunk lid, which then lowers back down. The same process is repeated when opening the targa top.
