Honda Civic Hybrid

The seventh generation of the Honda Civic, which was produced from 2000 to 2005, was released in September 2000 as a 2001 model. Its exterior dimensions remained similar to the predecessor, but the interior space increased significantly which put the car in the compact size segment. There was a flat rear floor, improving comfort for those seated in the back. In place of the front double wishbone suspension, MacPherson strut was implemented. Upon its release, it won the Car of the Year Japan Award for a record fourth time in 2000, following it up with the award for the Japan Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference Car of the Year in 2001. With a 115 hp (86 kW) engine, up by 9 hp (7 kW) from the prior generation, all Civics (except EX and Si) were powered. Additionally, the EX retained its power at 127 hp (95 kW) with all non-Si engines being stroked to 1.7 liters in the North American region. For 2003, the Civic featured new tail lights resulting in a circular design when lit up. In 2004, the car was given a facelifted front end with a new headlights, bumper, and grille; side skirts were also included. The U.S Honda brought out the Special Edition in 2005. It was available in LX or EX versions. The hybrid version of the Civic was released in North America in the spring of 2002. It featured a small 1.3 L I4 main gasoline engine and auxiliary electric motors that combined produced 93 hp. The electric motors get power from a battery array that is recharged through regenerative braking during deceleration, thus creating less emissions and enhancing fuel mileage to 46 mpg city / 51 mpg highway with the manual transmission as per EPA fuel estimates.
