Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2
The Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 is the latest version of the hand-built motorsport-derived machine, powered by a newly increased 2,156cc engine to boost power and torque by an additional 30%. Producing 260PS and 240Nm in torque at 6,000rpm, the car is equipped with bespoke Mugen Euro components such as sports suspension, uprated brakes and a performance bodykit, all of which make the Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 the ultimate driving experience.
As an homage to the much-loved Honda K20 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine, which has now ceased production in Japan, the Mugen 2.2 has been homologated by Mugen as a FIA Group N race series engine. Mugen Euro engineers have built or tuned almost 400 different variants for race and rally teams since 2006, and have also produced the only two complete road cars; the four-door Honda Civic Mugen RR saloon in Japan, and the Honda Civic Type R Mugen limited edition in the UK.
Vice-president of Mugen Euro, Hiro Toyoda, commented: "We may never see the like of the K20 in a mainstream production car again, so felt it only fitting we mark the occasion with this special 2.2 version of the Honda Civic Type R".
Regarding the 2.2 limited edition version, of the 20 cars produced in 2010, four are still unsold and Mugen Euro may consider offering them with the reworked engine, or inviting existing owners to return their cars for an upgrade. It is expected that a decision on these plans will be made shortly.
