Honda Civic Wagon

In 1987, Honda completely redesigned the Civic for model year 1988. The suspension was revamped to incorporate "double-wishbone suspension" on all four corners, and the wheelbase was increased to 98.4 inches (250 cm). The design featured a lower hood line and larger windows, decreasing drag. At the rear, the suspension was multi-link trailing arm suspension, complete with toe control used on the main trailing arm. Japan In the Japanese and American markets, the base model of the fourth generation Civic was equipped with a 1.2 L SOHC single carbureted engine. In Japan, the base version of the Civic was called either 23L or 23U and was instead powered by a 1.3 L SOHC single carbureted engine. The 1.5 L SOHC engine came in three options: dual-point injection, single carbureted, and dual carbureted. These engines were found in the Japanese-market 25X and 25XT models. The Japanese-market flagship model, the sporting Si, had the ZC D16A8/A9 1.6 L 16V DOHC VTEC engine, which could generate 160 PS (118 kW; 158 hp) at 7,600 rpm and 111 lbf·ft (150 N·m) of torque. This was the introduction of Honda's variable valve timing and electronic lift control technology. The top model of the hatchback for the late 1989 was the new SiR, which boasted the same 1.6-litre engine of the Si but with a slightly lower power of 150 hp (112 kW). Automatic-equipped SiR Civics received a lower-powered engine.
