Honda Civic Wagon

In 1987, Honda made a significant redesign of the Civic for the 1988 model year. This newly designed engine featured a "double-wishbone suspension" on all four corners, a wheelbase that was increased to 98.4 inches (250 cm), and a body that had a lower hood line and more glass, making for less drag. The rear suspension, however, is better characterized as a multi-link trailing arm suspension, since the upper control arm only has one anchor and the main trailing arm utilizes toe control. Japan In Japan, the Civic's base model had a single carbureted 1.3 L SOHC engine, known as either the 23L or 23U. The 1.5 L SOHC model came in a variety of models, such as dual-point injection, single carbureted, and dual carbureted, which is equipped in the 25X and 25XT. The Japanese version of the sport edition, the Si, had a ZC D16A8/A9 1.6 L 16V DOHC engine with 111 lbf·ft (150 N·m) of torque. Later, a top-of-the-line hatchback was released, called the SiR, equipped with a 1.6 L DOHC VTEC engine that put out 160 PS (118 kW; 158 hp) at 7,600 rpm. This engine, the B16, debuted Honda's variable valve timing and electronic lift control technology, or VTEC. This engine set the standard for the performance variants of the Honda Civic, known for its high-revving and naturally aspirated capabilities. The European version, badged as the "1.6i-VT", used a less powerful B16A1 engine that had a redline of 8,200 rpm and produced 150 hp (112 kW). In Japan, automatic-equipped SiR Civics received the lower-powered engine.
