Honda EV Plus 1997 posters

Honda EV Plus

The Honda EV Plus was the first production battery electric vehicle from a major automaker with non lead acid batteries. Only 300 or so EV Plus models were produced and released between 1997 and 1999. The EV Plus was taken out of production to make way for Honda's hybrid electric vehicles such as the Honda Insight. The EV Plus was designed to compete with General Motors' new EV1.

The EV Plus had two modes; regular and economy mode. Regular mode offered significantly better performance, acceleration, and power compared to economy mode, but consumed more energy. With careful driving, the EV Plus could provide a range of up to 110 miles (180 km) in economy mode. It also had a 12 V battery to power accessories, conserving energy from the main drive batteries.
