Honda Element DX
The Honda Element is a crossover SUV released in 2003 in the US, Canada, and Japan. It is is based on the CR-V but is shorter in length, has a 1.7 inch shorter wheelbase, a 7.8 inch higher roofline, 1.7 inch narrower front track, and an inch lower floor. It was designed to compete with more entry-level SUVs and crossover hatchbacks.
Powering the Element is a 2.4L K24A4 i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 156 hp at 5500 RPM and 160 lb-ft of torqe at 4500 RP. It rides on a modified CR-V chassis and has no visible B-pillars, for reinforced joints and strengthened lower side sills, enlarged crossmembers, enlarged rocker panels, and five bulkheads per side. The Element comes with front-wheel drive or the optional Real Time™ four-wheel drive system.
Originally, the concept vehicle (Model X) was conceived in 1998 by a group of young R&D engineers who wanted to develop a vehicle for their own activities. It is designed to carry large and possibly messy loads, with a textured urethane floor that is easy to clean, tough and stain-resistant fabric, and rear individual seats that recline, fold up, and are completely removable. It also has a large and tall rear clamshell tailgate, for loading larger objects. The rear side suicide doors open backward with no central pillar for unobstructed access for side loading.

For 2003 the Element came in two trim levels - DX and EX. A service bulletin was released regarding the windshield flange surface being uneven. Honda of America then had to replace the windshield at no cost to the owner. Four-wheel drive models also came with a large rear sunroof.
