Honda Element EX 2003 posters

Honda Element EX

The Honda Element is a crossover SUV that was released in 2003 in the US, Canada, and Japan. It is based on the Honda CR-V, though its dimensions are significantly different; it is a foot shorter and has a lowered floor, while the wheelbase, roofline, and front track have been slightly altered. The Element can compete with entry-level SUVs, such as the Ford Escape, and crossover hatchbacks like the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

The Element features Honda's 2.4 L K24A4 i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 156 hp and 160 lb-ft of torque. The chassis is a highly modified CR-V chassis, and the SUV lacks B-pillars for unobstructed access when side loading. It is available with front-wheel drive or an optional four-wheel drive system.

The Element concept vehicle (Model X) which was used for activities such as cross-country road trips and hauling bikes was first conceived by a core group of young R&D engineers in 1998. The 4-seat Element is designed to carry large and possibly messy loads, with a textured urethane floor, tough and stain-resistant fabric, reclining and removable individual rear seats, and a large rear clamshell tailgate.
