Honda Element EX-P

The Honda Element is a crossover SUV that was released to the US and Japan in 2003. It is based on the CR-V, low-leveling it and offering an alternative to entry-level SUVs and crossovers. Its modified chassis comprises no B-pillars, and its body is shorter in length, with a smaller wheelbase, increased roofline, and narrower front track. Inside, it has four seats, removable to create a large load space along with a rear clamshell tailgate arrangement. The Element's power comes from Honda's 2.4L K24A4 i-VTEC four-cylinder engine, which outputs 156 hp at 5500 rpm and 160 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. The Real Time four-wheel drive system is a hydraulic actuation system that is optional and works only with front wheel slippage. It was discontinued in Japan by 2006. Now, the Element is assembled in East Liberty, Ohio. The concept for the Element originated with a small group of R&D engineers in 1998, their idea being to create a vehicle they could use that was a combination of a pickup truck and an SUV. This is reflected in the Element's design, its cleanable floor, tough and stain-resistant fabric, and reclining, foldable seats. Its side loading capabilities are helped by its tall body and suicide doors that open backward—no central pillar.
