Honda Fit Sport

Introduction

The Honda Fit made its mark in the automotive industry when it first launched in Japan in June 2001. It then journeyed across the world to other regions over the years, including Europe (early 2002), Australia (late 2002), South America (early 2003), and Southeast Asia (mid 2003). Honda unveiled the production model for the North American market at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car was made available in Canadian markets on April 3, 2006 and the US market on April 20, 2006 and was released with a longer model cycle compared to other Honda models.

Drivetrain

Depending on the region, the Fit is available with either a 1.2, 1.3, or 1.5-liter i-DSI engine, or a 1.5-liter VTEC engine. The 8-valve i-DSI engines use two spark plugs per cylinder to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize emissions. The 1.5-liter VTEC engine has the traditional 16-valve configuration. These engines can be mated to a 5-speed manual, 5-speed automatic, or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The CVT can have either the traditional gearless shifting, or have seven computer-controlled “gears” controlled by paddle shifters on the steering column.
