Honda MDX

The Honda MDX (known as the Acura MDX in Japan and Australia) is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV that has been produced by the Japanese automaker Honda since the 2001 model year. It is built by Honda of Canada Manufacturing Ltd. in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. It was first released in late 2000 as a 2001 model, replacing the SLX, which was based on the Isuzu Trooper. In 2003, the MDX was released for sale in Japan, and is now a competitor of the Lexus RX, Infiniti FX35, BMW X3, Hummer H3, and Mercedes-Benz M-Class. The 2007 release of the Acura RDX moved the MDX up as the Acura's top-line SUV, with the Lexus GX, BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, Land Rover LR3, and Infiniti FX45 now among its competitors. The Honda MDX is derived from the Global mid-size platform which also underpins the Honda Accord, Acura TL, Acura TSX, and Honda Odyssey. It is powered by a J35A3 3.5 L SOHC 24 valve V6 with VTEC, with a 3471 cc (3.5 in x 3.6 in) engine producing 265 hp (198 kW) and 253 ft.lbf (343 Nm). Its curb weight is 4451 lb (2019 kg), has a 1esy wheelbase of 106.3 inches (2.7 m) and 8 inches (203 mm) of ground clearance. The cargo floor can be flipped up to provide two additional seats, giving it the capacity to carry 7 passengers. The MDX also has an automatic four-wheel drive system that is only engaged when wheel slippage is detected; otherwise, it runs exclusively as front-wheel drive. Upon its 2002 release, the MDX featured an option for a navigation system and DVD entertainment system, though they were mutually exclusive options. Both options have been available to be purchased together since the 2003 model. Additionally, the navigation system has come with a rear view video camera since 2003. Since 2005, the navigation system also provides information from Zagat about restaurants and other local points of interest. The 2003 model was rated as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle, boasting an EPA estimate of 23 mpg (10.23 L/100km) highway and 17 mpg (13.84 L/100km) city. The 2004 model saw enhancements to the engine, increasing its power output by 5 hp (4 kW), and the addition of dual tailpipes, replacing the single pipe found on earlier models. Some chrome trimmings on the 2004 model were given a matte finish, for differentiation from the more polished finish of earlier models. Minor revisions were made to the vehicle's chrome and faux wood interior trim for the 2006 model, though little else changed.
