Honda Odyssey 1999 posters

Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey is a minivan manufactured by Honda for the North American market. It has four swing-open doors and was the first minivan to feature a flat-folding third row seat. The initial Odyssey had two trim levels—LX and EX—fitting seven and six passengers, respectively.

First generation (1995-1998)

The first generation Odyssey received praise for its power and size, however it received criticism for underpowered engines, a small interior, and expensive power door failures. Consumers generally opted for the larger and redesigned Dodge Caravan. The Odyssey was also sold as the Isuzu Oasis, which has since been discontinued.

The Odyssey was Wheels magazine's Car of the Year for 1995.

Second generation (1999-2004)

The second generation Odyssey had the same layout and size as the class-leading Dodge Caravan. It had good acceleration, however, transmission technology failed to keep up with engine power. Most common failures for the 4-speed and 5-speed automatic transmissions include the third clutch pack, blockage of internal transmission fluid, and other transmission-related issues. Additionally, consumers noted road noise issues, rattles, expensive power door failures, sticking door seals, indifferent dealer service, and added dealer markups.
