HSV W427

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) have finally presented their awe-inspiring creation, the HSV W427, to the public at the 2008 Melbourne Motorshow. Following its 'showcar' appearance, production of the seven-litre 375 kW 'supercar' has kicked off in Australia and New Zealand. HSV's Managing Director Scott Grant praised the engineering and design efforts behind the car. "The story around the development of this car is quite remarkable," he said. "We are proud to have produced a vehicle of these proportions and strongly believe that its launch demonstrates a bright future for luxury and performance vehicles in the Australian car market." The HSV W427 name comes from the Group A SS VL Commodore released more than twenty years ago, popularly known as the 'Walkinshaw', that paid homage to the HSV business owner Tom Walkinshaw. '427' represents the cubic inch capacity of the mechanics. This powerful engine is designed and hand built by General Motors' Performance Build Center in North America. Currently, it is fitted in only two cars - Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Australian HSV W427. It is capable of generating up to 375 kW of power (500 hp) and 640 Nm torque, making extensive adjustments in the clutch, gearbox, differential, and exhaust components necessary for its safe operation. Those fittings are accomplished in HSV's Clayton facility.
