Hummer H1

The Hummer H1 - a civilian version of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) or popularly known as the Humvee - was created by AM General and first introduced to the civilian market in 1992. Its popularity was largely credited to Operation Desert Storm, and backed by actor Arnold Schwarzenegger who owns several of his own.

History

In 2006, GM announced that the Hummer H1 would no longer be available for civilian sale due to the new emission laws for Diesel engine vehicles set to take effect in 2007, as no version of the H1 met the required standards. However, AM General responded by increasing orders for new HMMWVs for the United States Military which has shown to produce between 600-800 units a year. Additionally, the H1 is still available for sale in the mass market through Fleet sales.

Specifications

The H1 has three commonly known variants: a soft top, a four-door hard top pickup truck and a Wagon body version, as well as other lesser known options like a two-door pickup truck and a four-door slantback. Right now, only the convertible/soft top and station wagon versions are available to the mass market, while the two door and four door pickup versions are exclusively sold via Fleet sales.
